Creating a Template from Scratch

A more detailed guide on how to build custom templates in Connie to fit your most-used contracts.

Updated today

Every contract and document in Connie starts with a template. You’ll have instant access to Connie’s ready-made templates, but we recommend creating your own, tailored to the contract types you use most often.

Here’s how to build a template step by step:

Step 1: Go to Templates

Open the Templates section in the menu on the left.

Step 2: Add a New Template

Click “Add Contract Template” in the top right corner.

Step 3: Add Your Content

Insert prewritten text in the new document, or start writing your contract template from scratch.

Step 4: Insert Smart Tags

Use Smart Tags to handle dynamic content such as Signer Name or Signer Phone.

  • Connie will automatically fill in this information or create the right form fields.

  • You can also add checkboxes, text fields, or even image upload fields.

Step 5: Adjust the Layout

Format your contract with:

  • Headline and text styles

  • Page breaks

  • Internal notes

  • Single- or multi-select options

  • Tables

Step 6: Add General Details

On the right-hand side, fill in:

  • Internal Title

  • Public Title

  • Template Description

  • Template Category

Step 7: Choose Signature Type

By default, Connie uses a Simple Electronic Signature.

💡 Danish users on Studio, Professional, or Enterprise plans can also select MitID, an Advanced Electronic Signature with higher security.

Step 8: Set Up a Signing Workflow

  • Add extra signers if needed.

  • Assign each a title (e.g., Producer, Actor, Client).

  • Decide whether the issuer must sign at the end.
This signing flow becomes the default for all contracts created from this template.

Step 9: Manage Expiry Settings

  • Set an optional default expiry date for agreements based on this template.

  • Allow the issuer to override this if needed.

Step 10: Configure Child Usage & Legal Threshold

Decide whether this template can be used with minors, and choose accordingly between:

  • Adults Only

  • Adults and Children

  • Children Only

If children are included, set the legal threshold age (the age at which parental/guardian consent is no longer required).

⚠️ Always check your country’s legal requirements.

Step 11: (Optional) Add Custom Questions

Create questions for the primary signer that appear during signing (separately from the contract).

  • Useful for collecting additional information that doesn't belong in the contract itself.

  • You can choose whether responses are automatically deleted when the associated project expires, keeping you GDPR-compliant.

Step 12: Save & Publish

Click Save & Publish.
Your template is now ready to use and will appear under Templates in the chosen category.

💡 Pro tip: Connie automatically detects the language in your templates.
