Understanding permissions

Manage who can access what in Connie. Learn how permissions work at the project level, user level, and for external collaborators.

Your data is safe with Connie β€” protected by strong encryption and flexible access controls. With our advanced settings, you decide who can view, access, and manage your documents.

The three levels of permissions

There are three levels of permissions in Connie: Project Level, User Level, and External Collaborators.

Permissions at Project Level

Here you can manage on a project level who has access to the specific project. Choose between:

  • Full team β†’ everyone on the team can see it.

  • Private to you β†’ only you can see it.

  • Private to selected members and collaborators β†’ choose specific team members or collaborators.

πŸ’‘ Pro tip: Users in a project can see all the documents, contracts etc. inside that project. If you want some contracts to stay more private, we recommend you simply make another project for those.

How you change permissions at Project Level

1. Open the project

Click Projects in the left menu bar to view all your projects (or the projects you have access to), then select the project you want to adjust.

2. Open the project settings

Click the Settings icon (βš™οΈ) in the top right corner. In the settings panel, scroll down to Project Permissions and adjust them as needed.

Permissions at User Level

When you invite a new team member, you can set their access:

  • Decide which projects they can access.

  • Grant or limit permissions for managing projects, people & companies, team members, contracts, templates, and account settings.

This ensures each team member only sees and can edit what's relevant to them.

How you change permissions at User Level

User-level permissions are initially set when inviting someone to your Connie account. To edit them afterwards, follow these steps:

1. Open the team settings

Click Settings in the left menu bar, then select Our Team from the tab bar at the top.

2. Select the person

Click the three dots (β‹―) next to the person whose permissions you want to edit, then open their user settings.

3. Edit the project access

Tick the boxes for the projects you want this person to access. Note that some projects may be pre-selected and cannot be changed. This happens when a project is set to full team access at the project level, which overrides user-level settings.

4. Edit the permissions

Adjust which actions and features are available to this team member. For a detailed overview of available permissions, see the article on managing your team.

Permissions for External Collaborators

External collaborators (e.g. freelancers, temporary crew) only get access to the specific project(s) you invite them to β€” nothing more.

You can also decide whether or not they are allowed to issue documents from the Projects they are invited to.

That way, you stay in control and avoid giving access to projects they shouldn’t see.
