Collect signatures from minors

This article explains how parental or guardian consent signing works in Connie and how to set it up.

In most European countries, minors cannot legally enter into binding agreements on their own. For any contract or release involving a child or young person, a parent or legal guardian must sign on their behalf. Connie supports this through the parental signature feature, included in all Studio and Professional plans.

Important: To use this feature, you must create a template before setting up your SignPage or document. The template is the foundation. Parental signing is configured there first.

Step 1: Set up the template

Follow the template setup guide to create your template. During setup, scroll down to Child Usage on the right side. Here you choose between three options:

  • Adults only – the signer cannot sign on behalf of a child under 18

  • Adults and children – the signer can sign for themselves or on behalf of a child

  • Children only – the signer can only sign on behalf of a child under 18

Choose the option that fits your use case. If this template will be used for both adults and minors, select Adults and children. If it is exclusively for minors, select Children only.

When you are happy with the content and settings, click Publish changes in the top right corner.

Step 2: Use the template to create your document or SignPage

1. Enter Projects

Click Projects in the left-hand menu and open the Project you want to work in.

2. Click New Document or New SignPage in the top right corner.

Choose New Document if one specific person needs to sign. Choose New SignPage if multiple people need to sign individually – Connie generates a unique URL and QR code you can share with everyone who needs to sign.

3. Click Choose template

Now you can select the template you set up with parental signing enabled.

4. Adjust the draft

Click the toggle at the top of the page to enable edit mode if you need to make any changes to the document or SignPage.

5. Finalise the settings on the right side

This includes signer information, signature type, and any custom questions.

6. Save and issue

For a SignPage: click Publish SignPage in the top right corner.
For an individual document: click Preview document, review and finalise the email that will be sent to signers, then click Issue document to send it out for signature.
