Manage project access

This article explains how to control who can access your projects and documents in Connie.

Connie gives you control over who can access your projects at two levels: project level and user level. Keep in mind that anyone with access to a Project can see everything inside it. If you need certain documents to stay more private, create a separate Project for them.

Access permissions in the project (Project level access)

Project level access permissions set a general rule for who can access a specific Project. There are three options:

  • Full team – everyone on your team can see and access the Project

  • Private to you – only you can see it

  • Private to selected members and collaborators – you choose who has access and select people manually

How to change project level access

You can manage the access to a project right when you create a new project. In case you want to change them afterwards you can follow these steps.

1. Open the project

Click Projects in the left-hand menu and open the Project you want to adjust.

2. Click the Settings icon (⚙️) in the top right corner.

In the settings panel on the left, scroll down to "Project Permissions".

3. Select the access level that fits your needs.

If you select "Private to selected members and collaborators", tick the boxes next to the team members or collaborators you want to give access to.

4. Scroll to the top and click Save.

Access permissions in your team settings (User level access)

You can also manage project access per team member under Our Team in your account settings. This is useful for projects set to Private to selected members and collaborators, where you need to assign access individually.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Projects set to Full team access will always appear as ticked for all team members and cannot be restricted at user level.

  • Projects set to Private to you will never appear here and cannot be shared with others.

How to change user level access

User level access is set when you first invite a team member. To edit it afterwards:

1. Open the team settings

Click Settings in the left-hand menu, then click Our Team.

2. Select the person

Click the three dots (⋯) next to the person whose permissions you want to edit, then open their user settings.

3. Edit the project access

Tick the boxes for the Projects you want this person to access. Note that some Projects may be pre-selected and cannot be changed. This happens when a Project is set to full team access at the project level, which overrides user level settings.

4. Scroll to the top and click Save

Exception: External Collaborators

External collaborators are an exception. They only have access to the specific Projects you explicitly invite them to – even if a Project is set to full team access.
